Curitiba

Wednesday, February 28, 2018

In the midst of sweet 16 birthday's, returning from Florida and Christmas break
we had a visitor come into town and surprise my girlies
Downtown Dolly Brown a dear friend from Maryland flew into Brasil
Surprised my girls, spent a few days with them and then we were able
to snuck away to Curitiba for a few days of play

A 300-year-old city, Curitiba is on the Parana plateau
We started the day off touring the Jardim Botanico
Dolly also enjoyed some of the "sights" of Brasil
Homeless sleeping on the streets, filthy toilets and just things that I've grown accustomed to

For the day we took the on/off bus tour that allows you to stop at designated stops in the city
Our next stop was Museu Oscar Niemeyer
It seemed fitting to visit this museum since I live in the city that he designed

A few of the collections that were appropriate for photography

I really liked this idea
Currency from all over the world displayed in these IKEA type frames
It would be a fun collection to start showcasing travels

The main building, a suspended eye-shape structure overlooking the museum

Another stop...Bosque Amemao
an 8-acre park honoring German immigration
We took a walk through the park and were privileged to
see this beautiful view of the city down below

Day #2 we took a train for the day to Paranagua
It was a 3 hour train ride, 3 hours due to the slow speed of the train
But none the less a beautiful 3 hours with lovely
views of mountain ranges, valleys, bridges and just beauty

Day #3
We spent at the Curitiba LDS temple
It was a lovely day, a beautiful temple and a great way to end off our tour of Curitiba

Thanks Dolly for the adventure and fun!

Prophets

Monday, February 26, 2018

A few weeks ago I was able to watch on my laptop the announcement of a
new Prophet for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints
It was amazing being able to be part of this historic moment from
Brasil while the events were taking place in Salt Lake City, Utah
I am thankful for a living prophet and the ability that
they have to be a mouthpiece for God

Brasil life

A peek into our week...
Swimming in February: awesome, incredible, great
except for a few of my kids who miss the snow
I have a hard time comprehending the concept

Popsicles after playing on the Embassy playground

Still encountering strange and mysterious fruits

Experiencing gorgeous sunsets!

Taking the teens out on long bike rides

Teaching the little to bike ride

Catching little lizards while working in the yard

Gleaning avocados from the neighbors yard
They are a little more wet then a "Haas" but still make good guacamole
after we let them sit on the counter to "ripen" for a week
