Manaus...the city

Tuesday, August 8, 2017

A few views of the Amazon river and it's tributaries as we arrived in Manaus
Jen and I feared that this trip had the potential for a Home Alone outcome
Traveling with 14 people is a feat, we all made it to the airport
boarded on time and landed together at the Manaus airport

We all packed light but when you all have a backpack things start to add up
We were greeted at the airport exit by our tour guide transport

As we drove from the airport to our hotel I was surprised by the size of the city Manaus
I had in my head "Amazon" city and didn't research the size of the city much before our departure
It was about 30 minutes of driving through a very busy, compact streets before arriving to our hotel for the night

Everyone got settled into their rooms, 5 count
and we ventured out to the hot, humid streets to explore Manaus
On both families list was a visit to the

See all our cute kiddos up on the landing...

Jen had read that the Opera House offered free concerts on Monday evenings
When we arrived we were sad to hear that the concerts had ended the week before and the building was closed for the day so we didn't get to peak inside
Rob nosed around and found out that we could enter the next morning at 9:00
Thankfully we had enough time to do so and still make our cruise departure time

Touring the inside of the opera house the next morning
We were lucky enough to get to hear the orchestra rehearsing for an upcoming concert and admission to the opera house was free that day!
With the gaggle of kids in tow this was the best concert we could attend
Listen to a few songs and then move on

A view from the balcony
Gwen loved listening to the church bells ring across the street

Hopefully this fire extinguisher could do the trick with most of the building composed of wood
